Mono Lake is a striking blue oasis in eastern California surrounded by desert peaks, volcanoes, and the Sierra Nevada. Scenic tufa tower formations and saline waters lie at the edge of freshwater streams and snow-capped mountains. Millions of birds, trillions of brine shrimp, and countless alkali flies contribute to one of the most productive lake ecosystems on the planet. As I was doing my research on its history I came across a documentary on Mono Lake. I had no clue how a thirsty city almost destroyed an entire ecosystem until I watched the 30 minute long video at this link, it is very informative and well done. https://youtu.be/Cp4H3uXl1Lk
